Our new Director of Music, David Davies

Welcome to EBS!

The Exeter Bach Society is an SATB choir based in central Exeter, Devon, specialising in the choral works of Johann Sebastian Bach. We perform two or three full-length concerts per year, with additional recitals of Bach's Cantatas at local churches. Recent performances have included Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Harmoniemesse and Bach's St Matthew Passion.

Our next concert, Music in May, will be on Saturday 11th May at St Mark's Church, Pinhoe. Please see our concerts page for details.

Recent News

In mid-March, the Mint Methodist Church hosted EBS's most recent performance: an abridged version of Bach's St Matthew Passion. Supported by soloists from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, double orchestra, and other talented singers, the choir rose to the challenge of presenting Bach's masterpiece in a fashion of which we hope he would have been proud.

Our 2012 Christmas performance of Handel's Messiah, at St David's Church, was well-received, and much enjoyed by all. Other highlights of December included carol singing at Killerton House, led by our assistant director of music John Pearce.

In September 2012 we were pleased to welcome our new director of music, David Davies, to join assistant director John Pearce. David is the assistant director of music at Exeter Cathedral, and brings with him a wealth of directing experience from choirs and orchestras across the UK. John has taught and directed choirs in London, and is currently chairman of the Budleigh Music Festival.
