Welcome

Founded in 1995, Exeter Bach Society is the only choral society in Exeter devoted to the life and works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Director of Music

We are disappointed to report that Nicholas Marshall, our Director of Music, is resigning from 1st April 2012. We are delighted to announce his replacement by David Davies, Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral. See further details on Our People page.

Membership News

The 2011/2012 season rehearsals starts on Thursday 8th September 2011 when we will be learning the Christmas Oratorio. If you would like to join us please come along any Thursday evening or ring the Hon Secretary - see Join us page.

The final concert of the 2010/2011 Season was an inspiring performance of J S Bach's  great Mass in B minor. This was enjoyed by the audience (we received lots of complimentary comments), solists, orchestra and the choir.

We are looking forward to Saturday 3rd December 2011 for our next major concert when we will be tackling the Christmas Oratorio (except Part 4) by Bach. Why the cut? We have heard recently of a performance of the whole work, which as you may know is six pretty long Cantatas, each intended to be sung on Christmas Day and five subsequent days, where half the audience departed at the interval and never returned! Complete it is a long work. We do not intend to subject our loyal audience to the difficulty of sitting too long!
